「칠곡 구 왜관성당」은 1928년 가실본당(1924년 건립된 경상북도 최초 천주교 본당) 소속 공소에서 본당으로 승격되면서 건립된 예배당 건물로, 높은 첨탑과 반원아치 창호 등 성당 건축으로서의 특징을 현재까지 잘 유지하고 있으며, 선교활동을 펼치던 독일 성 베네딕도회의 수도자들이 한국전쟁 기간 중 이곳에 피난을 와서 세운 ‘베네딕도수도원’이 오늘날의 ‘성 베네딕도 왜관수도원’으로 성립되기까지의 과정을 보여주는 중요한 역사적 장소라는 점에서 가치가 충분한 것으로 평가되었다.
