보령 갈매못 천주교 순교지는 1866년 천주교 병인박해 당시 프랑스인 다블뤼 주교 등에 대해 효수형을 집행했던 장소로 대표적인 천주교 순교지임. 1925년 공주 최말구 신부 등이 현지를 확인하였으며 현재 순교자기념비, 기념관, 사제관, 수녀원 등이 건립되어 있으며 사적 보령 충청수영성(忠淸水營城)의 역사성과 연계된 유적으로 충청남도 기념물로 지정함.
