Heritage description, quoted as it is
1937년 광주지목구가 설립된 후 최초로 광주·전남지역(그 당시는 제주지역 포함) 선교를 위한 거점으로 사용된 건물로, 정면 중앙부의 반원아치와 필라스터(pilaster)로 장식된 현관 포치를 중심으로 대칭을 이루고 있고, 처마선 아래와 층간 사이에 수평 돌림띠로 장식하고 수직의 긴창을 반복적으로 배치하였으며, 내부의 목조계단·천장의 석고 플라스터(plaster) 몰딩·행거 미서기 문 등 전체적으로 원형이 잘 보존되어 있다. 1956년 교구청이 광주로 이전한 후 성 골롬반외방선교수녀회 수녀원 목포분원과 성 골롬반 병원 및 성신간호전문대학으로 사용되는 등 천주교 광주대교구의 초기역사와 성 골롬반외방전교회의 의료 선교의 역사를 알 수 있는 장소로 가치가 있다.
